PRAESIDIUMCONSULTING LLC
A recent Praesidium Consulting initiative has focused on the development of a purpose-built Pathway Analysis Tool (PAT) designed to improve the efficiency, consistency, and technical rigor of pathway and response-time analyses at complex industrial and high-security facilities. The tool was conceived in response to the limitations of conventional drawing-based methods, particularly when evaluating routes that extend across multiple buildings, elevations, and interconnected facility areas.
Development has focused on creating an integrated analytical environment in which facility drawings can be assembled into a coordinated model and relevant pathway features—including doors, gates, stairwells, corridors, fences, access points, and other physical obstacles—can be defined and retained for subsequent analyses. Rather than relying solely on measured distance, PAT is being designed to incorporate the characteristics and delays associated with individual pathway elements, providing a more representative assessment of personnel movement and response timelines.
A key objective of the development effort has been to streamline complex analyses while preserving engineering judgment and analyst control. The platform supports the development and comparison of alternative routes, evaluation of changing accessibility conditions, and assessment of the effects of unavailable or obstructed pathways. This provides the ability to examine not simply how far personnel must travel, but how facility configuration and physical constraints can influence overall response performance.
The ongoing development of PAT represents Praesidium Consulting's broader effort to apply modern analytical tools to established physical security engineering methodologies. Once fully implemented, the platform is intended to provide a repeatable and defensible framework for supporting pathway analyses, protective strategy development, vulnerability assessments, design evaluations, and facility modification studies.
